Top seeds advance at the men’s Canberra Clay Court International
Dane Sweeny, the top seed had a tough battle to overcome Japan’s Daisuke Sumizawa 7-6(4), 6-4 in his opening round match in Canberra.
The second seed Marc Polmans had an easier time against Australian wildcard Tomislav Edward Papac. Polmans winning the match 6-2, 6-2.
The tournament is a 25k ITF event which last year saw Jason Kubler win both titles to jump start his rise up the rankings.
Sweeny and Polmans would be looking to do the same in 2023.
Polmans is continuing to rebuild his ranking after missing a large part of 2022 due to ankle surgery.
Polmans did the double back in 2017 winning the final in week one against Blake Mott and then the following week he defeated Maverick Banes.
