Inglis advances after a marathon match against Parnaby
In an all-Australian match Maddison Inglis has dug deep to defeat Alana Parnaby after a three hour and fifty eight minute marathon in round one at the ACT Claycourt International #1 at the Canberra Tennis Centre.
Back in 2019 at the same venue it was Inglis that tasted defeat after another marathon match, that time it was against Leylah Fernandez, then ranked no. 405. The match lasting three hours and twenty eight minutes.
Against Parnaby the score was 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4. The final set saw five breaks of serve as both players fought to gain the upper hand.
In the end Inglis found that extra energy to claim the win.
The players almost fell into each others arms at they met at the net to shake hands.
The tournaments top seed Olivia Gadecki had a much easier time when she defeated lucky loser Lisa Mays 6-0, 6-0 in under an hour.
