Gadecki advances while Fourlis is out in the first round
Top seed Olivia Gadecki advanced to the quarterfinals at the ACT Claycourt International.
The world no. 144 defeated world no. 517 Yang Ya Yi from Chinese Taipei.
The first set was close, however Gadecki ran away with the match in the second set to claim a 7-5, 6-0 victory.
Gadecki broke five times to her opponents one.
The no. 2 seed Jaimee Fourlis failed to advance from round one.
Fourlis and Arina Rodionova completed their match which was at 1-1 in the third set when it was called off yesterday.
In blustery conditions neither player managed to hold serve in the third set. It was then decided in a tie breaker.
Rodionova winning the match 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2).
In other matches Priscilla Hon defeated Chihiro Muramatsu 7-5, 6-1.
Haruka Kaji defeated Riko Sawayanagi 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Petra Hule defeated Alexandra Bozovic 6-1, 6-2.
Dalila Jakupovic, a former champion in Canberra, defeated Misaki Doi 6-3, 6-2. Jakupovic plays Destanee Aiava in a repeat of the 2018 final.
Aiva defeated Maddison Inglis 6-1, 6-2 which was expected after Inglis played close to four hours yesterday to advance.
After playing earlier today and defeating the no. 2 seed, Arina Rodionova backed up to defeat Lian En-Shuo 6-4, 7-6(4).
