Thompson and Purcell let match point slip
The all-Australian pairing of Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson have seen a match point slip away against the all-German pairing of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz during the ATP finals semifinal.
Purcell and Thompson were in superb form in the first set and at 2-0 in the second set looked to be cruising to victory, however tennis is a sport where you can be at the top of your game for only so long.
The Australians were broken in the third game of the second set and then struggled.
The match would go to a deciding tie-breaker and it was the Australian’s that held match point at 9-8. Thompson had a good swing for the win but missed the shot.
The Germans then won the next three points to claim the match 2-6, 6-3, 11-9.
Purcell and Thompson had defeated the same pairing in the US Open final.
