Heartbreak for Hunter as Olympic dream is in tatters

Former world no. 1 doubles player Storm Hunter has been hit with an Achilles injury in what will see her miss the Paris Olympics.

Hunter had been named as a singles player ahead of the Billie Jean King Cup tie against Mexico in Brisbane but suffered the injury in the teams final hit out on Thursday night.

Hunter is currently at no. 3 in the doubles rankings and is expected to be on the sidelines for six months.

The Australian in no stranger to injury after a two year break from 2018 when suffering a shoulder injury.

“I am devastated and heartbroken but incredibly grateful to be around the team and I know I have a great group of people around me that will help me get back on the court as soon as possible,” she posted on social media.

“Thank you so much everyone for your messages of support and love, I’m excited to stay for the tie and support our Aussie girls.”
