If you take a look at the current top-100 rankings for the WTA, you will find just four Australian women are listed.
In this article we look at Australian women’s tennis rankings and who is likely to hit the top-100 next.
Maya Joint sits at no. 28 after winning a few WTA 250 titles in 2025. Next comes Daria Kasatkina at no. 61, then Ajla Tomljanovic at 73 and finally Kimberly Birrell at no. 94.
In this article we look at who might join those players inside the top-100.
In the 101-200 range there currently are seven players from Australia. They are Talia Gibson, Maddison Inglis, Priscilla Hon, Emerson Jones, Taylah Preston, Olivia Gadecki and Astra Sharma.

Of that group, Hon, Gadecki and Sharma have all been in the top-100 at some stage of their careers. Most recently it was Hon that spent a brief time at no. 94 before sliding back out of the top-100.
Inglis made a big charge towards the top-100 after going all the way from qualifying at the Australian Open to the fourth round before losing to Iga Swiatek.
Before the Australian Open Inglis was ranked at no. 168 and came away with a ranking of no. 113, just one short of her career-high ranking back in March 2020. Inglis hasn’t played a match since her Australian Open effort, so not going up in the rankings just yet.
Gibson sits at no. 111 and was at no. 105 back on 25 August, 2025. The 21-year-old won an ITF 75 titlel in Brisbane a few weeks ago and then lost in the semis the next week in the second of the Brisbane tournaments. Another title in Brisbane would have seen her just a few places short of the top-100.
At the moment Gibson is playing in the ITF W100 in Bengaluru. A title there would give Gibson her ticket to the top-100. Just how long she can keep inside the top-100 depends on how she performs the next two months. There are 125 points to drop.
Gibson of course needs to win the title in Bengaluru first of all. First up is an Indian qualifier, Vaidehee Chaudhari. If seedings play out then Gibson would play Thailand’s Lanlana Tararudee in the final.
Priscilla Hon went from no. 167 at the start of 2025, to no. 94 in October. She didn’t stay in the top-100 for long so will need to work at it again. Hon was troubled by a foot injury later in 2025.
With 120 points to drop in February and March, Hon isn’t likely to hit the top-100 again for now.
Jones is a former world no. 1 junior and just last week claimed an ITF W75 title in Brisbane to move to no. 144, a career-high ranking. Jones still needs to add another 280 points to her ranking to hit the top-100.
Perhaps by the end of the year it could happen.
Taylah Preston is another player that could shoot up the rankings and hit the top-100. Up until September, Preston doesn’t have too many points to drop. The world no. 149 is also currently playing in the Bengaluru tournament and would hit around no. 133 with a title win in India.

For Preston, that would just eclipse her career-high ranking of no. 134.
So looking at the players in the range mentioned above it is looking likely that Gibson will be next to reach the top-100, but as history has shown, it can take just one good week and it happens.
Gadecki in 2024 shot up to no. 83 after reaching the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. She started that week at no. 152 back in September, 2024.
Gadecki held a top-100 ranking until early 2025, she snuck back in around March of 2025 and peaked at no. 91 in April before dropping back out in early August. Gadecki then fell all the way down to no. 294 on 22 September, 2025.
We will be keeping an eye on the Australian women’s tennis rankings and keep you up-to-date on this site.
