Australia’s Alex de Minaur faced 2021 US Open champion in the fourth round.
de Minaur dominated the first set with two breaks of serve helping him take the opener 6-2.
Medvedev lifted the tempo in the second set and was able to break in the tenth game to take the set 6-4.
It was the former champion that was now playing with authority and he raced to a 6-1 result to take the third set.
Medvedev had won 14 of the 16 games since it was 4-4 in the second set and he cruised to a victory over the Australian, taking the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.
In the end de Minaur was well outclassed despite showing much promise in the opening set.
If only he held serve at 4-4 and took it to the breaker to try for a 2-0 sets lead.
Medvedev advances to face Rublev, for de Minaur it was a solid tournament without achieving a breakthrough that he desires.
