Sydney International Tennis Stars Cruise the Harbour

January 6, 2019 by Alicia Keating

Seven of the star players from the women’s field of the Sydney International, including Simona Halep, Ashleigh Barty, Daria Gavrilova, Petra Kvitova, Sloane Stephens, Samantha Stosur and Ajla Tomljanovic, enjoyed a cruise of the Sydney Harbour on board the luxurious super yacht, ‘Corroboree’. Despite the cold drizzly weather and grey skies, the players happily shared insights into their off season as well as their goals for the 2019 season.

Australia’s Ashleigh Barty spoke about having all four of her wisdom teeth pulled out at the start of the off season, and about her four dogs who are “energetic and a good use for four extra pillows when you need them.” Barty also shared that her ultimate goal for the year is to get in the top 10, and she also wants to go deeper in the grand slams.

Fellow Australian, Samantha Stosur was asked about her opinion on the newly introduced final set tie-break at the Australian Open. She said that she doesn’t believe that it is too big of a deal, but it is a little usual.

World no. 1 Simona Halep from Romania said that she is looking forward to some match practice in Sydney to test out her back ahead of the Australian Open. She suffered a herniated disc in her back and hasn’t played a match since the 30th of September last year when she was forced to retire during a match in Beijing.
