Finals are set at the Workday Canberra International
Friday was singles semifinals day at the tournament.
In the women’s side it was Spain’s world no. 123 Nuria Parrizas-Diaz that got the better of Denmark’s world no. 107 Clara Tauson when she won the first semifinal 6-4, 7-6(4).
There were plenty of breaks of serve throughout the match with Tauson breaking serve three time and Parrizas-Dias four times.
The Spaniard will face Britain’s Harriet Dart who overcame USA’s Katie Volynets 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.
Volynets, the world no. 108 was serving for the set in the opener but couldn’t close it out. Dart then won a string of games to claim the first set.
The American would hit back to send the match to a deciding third set.
Dart will be looking to keep the title in British hands after Katie Boulter won last year. The title was a 60k level event in 2023, it is now a more prestigious WTA125 event.
For the men the no. 1 seed Dominik Koepfer came from a set down against Canada’s Gabriel Diallo. The final score was 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-3.
Koepfer will face Czech Republic’s Jakup Mensik who battled past USA’s Brandon Nakashima in a night match.
