Australia’s Alex de Minaur has matched his fourth round result from 2022 after easily defeating France’s Benjamin Bonzi. The world no. 24 winning the match 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-1.
The scoreline could have been more one-sided as the Australian had several breaks in the first set but allowed himself to get broken back.
Once into the tie-breaker it was all de Minaur. He continued to dominate in sets two and three.
“I’m very happy, I can’t lie,” De Minaur said during his on-court interview.
“Honestly, as a kid this is what you train for. To be playing on this court, in front of you guys, on one of the biggest stages in the world. Every time I get out here, I’ve got to pinch myself.”
de Minaur now awaits the winner for the match between nine-time champion Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dmitrov, a semifinalist in 2017.
