Aussie women fail to advance at AO2023 qualifying
Five Australian women took to the courts at Melbourne Park for round two of qualifying, none would advance.
Destanee Aiava came the closest to moving onto the final round but she lost a tight match to Arianne Hartono from the Netherlands, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6).
The remaining four matches were one-sided affairs with Astra Sharma, Ellen Perez, Zoe Hives and Priscilla Hon all losing in straight sets.
With no Australian women going to qualify, Australia will have six representatives in next week’s main draw. World No.35 Ajla Tomljanovic will lead the Aussie charge alongside wildcards Jaimee Fourlis, Kimberly Birrell, Olivia Gadecki, Storm Hunter and Talia Gibson.
