A tough opening day for the Australians at Flushing Meadows on Sunday, 30 August — just one win from six matches involving Aussies, with two more left hanging when play was suspended.
The lone winner
- Taylah Preston def. Alycia Parks (USA) 6–3, 6–3 — the 20-year-old West Australian upset the American in straight sets to book a maiden Grand Slam second-round berth. Preston also consolidates her top-100 ranking, jumping up to no. 91 on the live rankings.
Straight-sets exits
- Adam Walton lost to Yibing Wu (CHN) 6–7(2), 2–6, 5–7 — Walton couldn’t find a way past the returning Chinese talent .
- Storm Hunter went down to 11th seed Marta Kostyuk 4–6, 1–6, the qualifier overpowered by the Ukrainian .
- Talia Gibson fell to Donna Vekic (CRO) 2–6, 6–4, 3–6 after a spirited middle set.
Suspended overnight
- Aleksandar Vukic trails Rei Sakamoto (JPN) two sets to one and 3–4 in the fourth when play was halted — Vukic will need to find something on resumption.
- Kimberly Birrell is down a set and level 6–6 in the second against Croatian Petra Marcinko, with a tiebreak looming when they return.

Australians finished Day 1 at 1–3 with two suspended, Taylah Preston the only one safely through.
