de Minaur racks up first ATP finals win and advances to semis

Australia’s Alex de Minaur has won his first ATP finals match from six attempts, and thanks to Carlos Alcaraz defeating Lorenzo Musetti, de Minaur advanced to the semis.

de Minaur got his win against USA’s Taylor Fritz in straight sets. That saw the Australian hoping Alcaraz would defeat Musetti and send de Minaur to the semis.

After just over 90 minutes of hard fought tennis, de Minaur defeated Fritz 7-6(3), 6-3.

“I have dealt with a fair bit of heartbreak recently, so it was good to finally get a win here in Turin,” said De Minaur after earning his first Top 10 win of the season outside team events. “I have worked really hard so it was good to get some positive feedback or a positive reward for the hard work, so I am very happy with the performance.”

Alcaraz defeated Musetti 6-4, 6-1 to end the Italians run at the finals in Turin.

That was the good news for the Australian, the bad news is that he will next take on the defending champion Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. Sinner dominates the head-to-head 12-0. Could it be lucky 13 for de Minaur?
