Australia’s world no. 161 Storm Sanders has reached the main draw at Roland Garros for the first time after defeating world no. 219 Susan Bandecchi 7-5, 7-5 in a round 3 qualifying match.
Sanders started 2021 ranked at no. 283 and was at no. 292 on February 22. She now sits at a career high ranking of no. 161 and that will improve further after reaching the main draw.
In the second set Sanders came back from 4-1 down to take the set 7-5.
Sanders is the only Australian player to fight her way out of qualifying after 11 players started in qualifying earlier this week.
