After almost crashing out of the Miami WTA 1000 event in her opening match, Australia’s world no. 1 Ash Barty has overcome Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets.
The final score was 6-3, 6-2. It was however tighter than the scoreline appears.
Barty had to come from 2-0 down in the second set and she also had to fight off five break points, managing to do so four out of five times.
Ostapenko would hit powerful winners but also hit wild shots that missed by a big margin.
Barty converted four from seven break point opportunities.
In round two Barty served 15 Aces and not one double fault. In this match she served five Aces and four double faults.
Next up for Barty is the winner of the Angelique Kerber v Victoria Azarenka match which follows on the Grandstand court.
The no. 1 ranking is up for grabs in Miami. A tournament win for Naomi Osaka will see her rise to no. 1.
