Earlier this year, Australia’s Ash Barty was forced to find a new doubles partner after her longtime partner Casey Dellacqua retired from tennis. That pairing played their last match together when they teamed up to help Australia defeat Ukraine in the Fed Cup.
Barty quickly found success with USA’s CoCo Vandeweghe as they won the Miami Premier-level title in their second tournament together.
In Rome, Barty joined Dutch player Demi Schuurs to claim the doubles crown, defeating Andrea Sestini Hlavachov and Barbora Strycova 6-3, 6-4. This is a Premier-level title on the WTA tour.
Schuurs had won the Brisbane International with fellow Dutch player Kiki Bertens and had defeated the Barty/Dellacqua pairing in the quarterfinals at that tournament.
