Wins for Ash Barty and Sam Stosur in the second round of a rain-delayed Miami Premier Mandatory event see the Aussies setup and all-Australian third round match-up.
Barty easily accounted for young Ukrainian player Dayana Yastremska, taking the match 6-4, 6-1. Yastremska has struggled since winning the Thailand Open title earlier this year.
Stosur was back on the big stage as the 2011 US Open Champion took on Madison Keys on centre-court in a night match. After winning the first set and holding a 4-0 lead in the second things fell apart for Stosur. Keys came roaring back to claim the second set and the American held a break in the deciding third set.
But then it was Stosur’s turn to dominate as she won four straight games to close out the match 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Ajla Tomljanovic also won on the day, it was, however, the completion of her round one match that was postponed due to rain. Tomljanovic was down a set going into today and defeated German Anna-Lena Friedsam 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Going into the third round match between Stosur and Barty it is the veteran that leads 1-0 in the head-to-head. Stosur defeated Barty 6-4, 6-4 in the 2017 Miami tournament.
