Former world no. 1 singles player Lleyton Hewitt made another doubles comeback appearance at the Sydney International. Hewitt teamed up with fellow-Australian Jordan Thompson.
The pairing had won their first round match against the no. 4 seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. In the quarterfinals, they took on Martin Klizan and Nicholas Monroe. The match was scheduled for court no. 1 on Thursday night, however, due to rain delays and the centre court match between John Millman and Gilles Simon being shifted to that court they found themselves on court no. 3.
After the centre court action had ended for the night many of the fans flocked to court 3 to watch Hewitt and Thompson in action. The crowd was standing room only.
The Australian’s won the first set 6-4 and after both pairings had broken in the second set they found themselves in a tiebreaker. After a few minutes of exciting action it was Hewitt and Thompson that came out on top, there was also a trademark “C’mon” from Hewitt and plenty of fist pumping.
