Australia’s Sam Stosur has announced via social media that she has become a mum.

Announced from her Instagram feed Stosur wrote: “It’s been one of the most exciting and happy times of my life. On the 16th of June, my partner Liz gave birth to our beautiful little girl, Genevieve.
The news came as a surprise for many as Stosur had for the first time spoken about her same-sex relationship with Liz Astling when announcing the news of a baby.
Astling a former physical therapist for the Aussie women’s Federation Cup team and Stosur are said to have dated since 2016.
Stosur is the 2011 US open champion having beaten Serena Williams. She has not announced if she will take part in the 2020 US Open which is set to commence on 31 August.
Stosur, the current world no. 97 started the year with a win over Angelique Kerber in Brisbane. Since that match she has lost in the first round in Hobart and at the Australian Open. Stosur also lost her first match at the Indian Wells 125k tournament in round two following a bye in round 1.
That was the last tennis action before the COVID-19 shutdown came into force.
