World no. 7, Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic has dominated against world no. 18 Garbiñe Muguruza. She defeated her in straight sets 6-3 6-1 in exactly an hour. Pliskova is taking her success from her Brisbane International victory a couple of weeks ago to give her the confidence to play well and defeat other top players.

Pliskova had a chance to break in the second game, but a forehand winner by Muguruza saved the point and the Spaniard was able to hold. Muguruza then broke in the next game to lead 2-1, but she was unable to consolidate as Pliskova was able to immediately break back. Pliskova broke again in the eight-game to lead 5-3 and serve out the set. She did so, closing the first set in 36 minutes.
The second set went by even quicker, lasting on 24 minutes, as Muguruza was only able to claim the third game.

Mugurza was able to hit 15 winners, but it wasn’t enough compared to Pliskova’s 23 winners. To add to that, Muguruza had an unforced error count of 20, whereas Pliskova had a very low number of 3.
The Czech has advanced t the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the third consecutive time, where she will play 23 time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams. Pliskova is looking to get to the semis in Australia for the first time. Post-match she said that “I feel better with every match that I play” and she will be watching the match on Rod Laver Arena to see who her next opponent will be.
