Ellen Perez has been super consistent during the first four tournaments on the Australian Tennis Pro Tour that she had taken part. Perez missed the Cairns ITF $25,000 event as she was playing in the Seoul WTA International qualifying.
Perez returned to Australia for the $60,000 ITF event in Darwin where she reached the final, losing to Kimberly Birrell. Next up Perez reached the final of the $25,000 ITF event in Brisbane, losing to China’s Xu Shilin. Another tournament and another final, this time in Toowoomba for the ITF $25,000 tournament. Unfortunately for Perez, another loss was the result, losing to Zoe Hives.
After a week off the Australian Pro Tour moved to Bendigo for an ITF $60,000 tournament. Perez has again reached the final after defeating Great Britain’s Gabriella Taylor 7-6(7), 6-7(2), 6-4. Taylor is the no. 3 seed, the day before Perez had defeated the no. 2 seed Olivia Rogowska.
Going back to late March Perez also lost a final at the $25,000 ITF tournament in Canberra losing to her training partner Jaimee Fourlis.
Perez after reaching the final showed that she is not feeling confident about winning her first title at this level in singles. She tweeted
If anyone has any tips on how to win a final please DM me.
There is some consolation for Perez in reaching all of these finals, her ranking has gone from no. 343 at the start of the year to at least a career-high at no. 178. Perez has also already teamed up with Arina Rodionova to win the doubles title in Bendigo.
Standing in the way of Perez in the final is the no. 4 seed, Priscilla Hon.
