China’s Wang Qiang was too solid for Ash Barty in their 4th round match at the US Open.
Wang was coached by Australia’s Peter McNamara until February this year. McNamara sadly died recently after suffering from prostate cancer.
Barty failed to convert all nine of her break point opportunities and also hit 39 unforced errors to Wang’s 14. The winners were 22 to 11 in favour of the Australian.
Wang converted 3 of 6 break points to help setup her 6-2, 6-4 victory to advance to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
