The July 16 edition of the WTA rankings was used to determine the US Open main-draw entry list. Part of that list includes the defending US Open women’s champion Sloane Stephens and six-time US Open winner Serena Williams. Other former champions to enter the 2018 event include two-time winner Venus Williams, 2006 champion Maria Sharapova; 2011 winner Samantha Stosur and the 2016 champion Angelique Kerber.

100 of the top 101-ranked players earned a direct entry into the 128-player main draw.
The 2018 US Open will be played Monday, Aug. 27, through Sunday, Sept. 9, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The US Open Women’s Singles Championship is presented by J.P. Morgan.
Sixteen more players will earn a spot through the US Open Qualifying Tournament, Aug. 21-24, while the remaining eight spots are wild cards awarded by the USTA.
Australians already into the main draw include Ash Barty, Daria Gavrilova, Sam Stosur and Ajla Tomljanovic.
