Little known Australian player Isabelle Wallace has defeated Olivia Rogowska at the French Open wildcard playoff to earn direct entry into the French Open to be played at Roland Garros.
It is a huge step up in Wallace’s career. The Australian is based in Spain and plays mostly on the third tier women’s tennis tour. Wallace is currently ranked at 249 with Rogowska at 153.
Wallace defeated Rogowska 6-1 5-7 6-3 in Sunday’s play-off final and will join Ashleigh Barty, Daria Gavrilova, Samantha Stosur and Ajla Tomljanovic in the main draw for the clay-court major with main draw action starting 27 May.
Prizemoney for a first-round exit, at the French Open is €40,000.
Wallace has won six titles on the ITF circuit.
